Mission Trip to Rural Appalachia: May 18-20th

Good Works is an organization that serves the poor and homeless in and around Athens, Ohio. Please consider joining us! Guest Worship Band April 29th – Souled Out!

On Sunday April 29th we will be having a guest worship band play at our 10:45am worship service. According to their website, Souled Out is a contemporary praise and worship band whose sound is as original as its members. Known for its wide repertoire of contemporary worship songs with Latin, jazz and blues influences, as well as original pieces, Souled Out has been a standard on the local Christian music scene since 2000. Comprised of members from several local churches, Souled Out began as a Sunday morning praise team. As the band grew and added instruments, as well as diverse vocals, it became a popular favorite among local worship events and venues.

Michael Van Arsdale Preaching April 22nd

The NET: New Adult Study Starting April 22nd

The NET is an eight-week evangelism training tool designed to help believers share the gospel through their story/testimony in a culturally relevant way. For the next eight weeks we will be combing both adult classes for this special study. Frank Haugh will be teaching the first week of this training.

Athens Mission Trip: Meeting April 15th

Stay after church this Sunday April 15th to get information about the upcoming mission trip to Athens, Ohio with Good Works, Inc. This is the organization headed by Keith Wasserman who spoke at New Life last November. Good Works is an organization that serves the poor and homeless in rural Appalachia in southeast Ohio. We plan on going and serving in Athens and the surrounding areas on May 18th-20th. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway outside of the sanctuary for those who are interested.

New Children’s Church Class for K-5

Starting this Sunday we are expanding our youth ministry by adding another Children’s Church class! Our original class was designed to serve kids 3-5 years old. We will continue to offer nursery services at this time also. Our new class will be for the older kids ages 6 and up. The material is targeted at K-5. It is the Praise Factory curriculum from Mark Dever’s Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.. We hope that this will be another way that we can better serve our visitors and our children. We are calling this expanded Children’s Church system KidLife. KidLife is now the children’s ministry that occurs during the worship service. As always, this ministry is optional. Children are always welcome to remain in the main worship service with their family. We will continue to offer Sunday School classes during the 9:00 hour for all ages.

We usually plan on having PNO on the first Friday of each month from 7-10 for ages 3 and up. Since Good Friday falls on the first Friday of April, how about bringing your whole family and joining us for a special Good Friday service at New Life at 7pm instead?

Parenting Workshop Starting February 27th @ Medina Library

We are starting a new class titled Parenting from a Christian Perspective. The kickoff for this class will be on Monday night February 27 at 7-8:30pm in Community Room A (just across from the main circulation desk on the 1st floor). Our study will be based on the video series for Tedd Tripp’s book Shepherding a Child’s Heart. This will be the start of a weekly series that we will continue throughout the remainder of winter and into spring at the Halls’ residence. This study is free and open to the public and all are welcome!

Winter Jam Concert Caravan: January 29th

Sunday night Jan 29th at 5pm meet at the church if you want to join up with the Cabacungan Community Group to go to the Winter Jam concert at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. Admission is $10 and there is no need to purchase a ticket in advance. There will be 10 acts performing including Skillet, Sanctus Real, Peter Furler (formerly of the Newsboys), Building 429, and Kari Jobe. It looks like we have a big group going. It should be fun!

Little Dresses For Africa: Friday January 27th

Supplies to bring:

Bring a standard size pillowcase, 3 yards of bias tape and thread close in color of pillowcases and 1/4 inch elastic.

If you can bring a sewing machine please do. We also need pins, scissors, tape measures/rulers, irons and anything else you think we might need!

Thursday December 15th at Medina Library at 6pm we will be screening the “JESUS” film. Free popcorn and drinks!

Every eight seconds, somewhere in the world, another person indicates a decision to follow Christ after watching the “JESUS” film.

Every eight seconds… that’s 10,800 people per day, 324,000 per month and more than 3.8 million per year! That’s like the population of the entire city of Pittsburgh, PA coming to Christ every 28 ¼ days. And yet, if you are like many people, you may have never even heard of it.

Through use by The JESUS Film Project, and more than 1,500 Christian agencies, this powerful film has had several billion viewings worldwide since 1979. On top of that, the great majority of those heard the story of Jesus in a language they easily understand. To date, the “JESUS” film has been translated into more than 1,110 languages.

Candlelight Walk on the Square: Nov 20th

On Sunday Nov 20 from 3-8pm we have been given the opportunity to serve at Cups Cafe just off the square. We plan on serving free hot chocolate. This will be during the Candlelight Walk on Sunday evening. We will have volunteers to helping to serve free hot chocolate and others to go out onto the square to get the word out and tell people to stop by Cups Cafe to warm up with some hot drinks! Let us know if you are interested in helping. You don’t need to volunteer for the full 5 hours. If you can only help for a little bit that would be great!

Poor and Homeless in Appalachia: Nov 20th

On Sunday November 20th we plan to have Keith Wasserman from good-works.net visit New Life to share about serving the rural poor and homeless in the Appalachian foothills of Southeast Ohio. Wasserman will be teaching during our Sunday School hour and sharing during our worship service.

For over 30 years, Keith Wasserman has invested his life into serving the rural poor and homeless through the ministry he started in the basement of his home back in 1981. Keith is a Jewish Christian, originally from Cleveland, Ohio who became a follower of Jesus in high school at the age of 17. Good Works, Inc (www.good-works.net) was Keith’s senior class project at Ohio University during his senior year. Today, Good Works serves people struggling with poverty, including the homeless in 9 Appalachian Ohio counties, widows and children living in poverty. Good Works has a paid staff of about 25 and provides opportunities for over 1100 volunteers to serve each year. Keith and his wife Darlene live in Athens Ohio and have one son, Timothy who is 21. From the Good Works mission statement “Good Works exists to connect people from all walks of life with people struggling with poverty so that the kingdom of God may be experienced”.

Francis Chan Study Starts November 6th

On November 6 New Life Christian Fellowship in Medina will begin a new adult study that is a video series produced by Francis Chan called “Basic”. Francis Chan is the former teaching pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley, California, a church he and his wife started in 1994. He is also the Founder and Chancellor of Eternity Bible College and author of the best-selling book, Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God, which came out in 2009. The study will be held on Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

The teaching sessions engage challenging, innovative, and accessible discussions of the nature of God and what that knowledge means for those who believe in Him as well as examining the early church and returning to the concept of church described in the Bible.

Human Trafficking Film @ Library Nov 2

We will be showing a free movie titled, “At The End of Slavery” at the library in Medina on Wednesday November 2 in Community Rooms A and B. This film documents the reality of modern-day slavery and human trafficking. It was produced by the International Justice Mission. It is narrated by Danny Glover with music by Johnny Cash and Moby. Join this movement to end slavery in our world in our times. Following the film we will have a group discussion with information on what you can do to be a part of this effort and make a difference.

Morgantown Church Plant Visits Oct 9th

Scott and Amanda Whitaker from Frontier Morgantown, a new church start in the college town that is the home of West Virginia University, will be visiting New Life to share their story. Morgantown has a population of 60,000 people. West Virginia University is the home of approximately 28,000 students. The WVU Mountaineers sports teams are members of the Big East Conference. It’s a cultural hub and strategic equipping and sending city. However the population is less than 5% evangelical according to the Association of Religious Data Archives (thearda.org). Free Karate Classes

New Life offers free Karate classes on Saturday mornings from 11:00am to 12:30pm and Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 8:30pm. The classes will be taught by Dale Thomas, a 5th degree black belt, police officer, former Marine, and member of New Life Christian Fellowship who has been teaching karate professionally since 1981.

The karate will be taught in the Shorin-Ryu tradition. The instruction will be sport-oriented and helpful for self-defense and encouraging personal, self-discipline. Christian teachings and principles will also be included.

This is for all ages and all skill levels. Families are welcome and encouraged to participate together.

Uniforms will be available for purchase at reasonable prices. Come dressed appropriately and ready to start on time.

This is a program of the Fighting Arts Academy.

Strengthen Your Marriage @ Medina Library

On Monday September 26 and Tuesday September 27 New Life Christian Fellowship of Medina will begin a new study at the Medina Library titled “Strengthening Your Marriage”. These free classes will be held from 7:00 to 8:30pm in Community Room A at the library. The focus of the classes will be to strengthen traditional marriages through Biblical principles. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

The series will be taught by Ted Hall and his wife Amy. They have been married for eighteen years and have three children together. Amy Hall has a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Southern Seminary. Ted Hall is New Life’s pastor. He has a Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry from Southern Seminary.

New Children Desiring God Curriculum!

This fall we are beginning a new curriculum for our children’s Sunday School classes from the publishers at Children Desiring God. These classes will use the series titled Jesus, What a Savior and Faithful to All His promises.

The mission of Children Desiring God is to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things so that the next generation may know and cherish Jesus Christ as the only One who saves and satisfies the desires of the heart.

Tim Keller’s Gospel in Life Starting Sept 11

On September 11 New Life Christian Fellowship of Medina will begin a new adult study that is an eight week video series by Tim Keller called “Gospel in Life: Grace Changes Everything.” Tim Keller is pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. The class will be held on Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Gospel in Life is an eight-week course on the gospel and how it is lived out in all of life— first in our hearts, then in community, and out into the world.

Week 1 opens the course with the theme of the city: our home now, the world that is. Week 8 closes the course with the theme of the eternal city: our heavenly home, the world that is to come. In between we will look at how the gospel changes our hearts (weeks 2 and 3), changes our community (weeks 4 and 5), and changes how we live in the world (weeks 6 and 7).

3. Idolatry: The Sin Beneath The Sin
4. Community: The Context for Change

Church Picnic – Sunday Aug 21

Following our worship gathering on Sunday Aug 21 we will be having a picnic at New Life. All are welcome. We plan on having food and activities. For the kids we plan to have a bounce house, cotton candy, snow cones, and popcorn. Members are encouraged to bring a dish with enough to share! Bring a friend!

Our worship service is at 10:45 with Adult Bible Study and Kids’ Sunday School at 9:30. We will also have special, guest musicians this week!
