Bring a standard size pillowcase, 3 yards of bias tape and thread close in color of pillowcases and 1/4 inch elastic.

If you can bring a sewing machine please do. We also need pins, scissors, tape measures/rulers, irons and anything else you think we might need!

Free popcorn and drinks!

Every eight seconds, somewhere in the world, another person indicates a decision to follow Christ after watching the “JESUS” film.

Every eight seconds… that’s 10,800 people per day, 324,000 per month and more than 3.8 million per year! That’s like the population of the entire city of Pittsburgh, PA coming to Christ every 28 ¼ days. And yet, if you are like many people, you may have never even heard of it.

Through use by The JESUS Film Project, and more than 1,500 Christian agencies, this powerful film has had several billion viewings worldwide since 1979. On top of that, the great majority of those heard the story of Jesus in a language they easily understand. To date, the “JESUS” film has been translated into more than 1,110 languages.

As a result, more than 200 million people have indicated decisions to accept Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.

We will have volunteers to helping to serve free hot chocolate and others to go out onto the square to get the word out and tell people to stop by Cups Cafe to warm up with some hot drinks! Wasserman will be teaching during our Sunday School hour and sharing during our worship service.

For over 30 years, Keith Wasserman has invested his life into serving the rural poor and homeless through the ministry he started in the basement of his home back in 1981. Keith is a Jewish Christian, originally from Cleveland, Ohio who became a follower of Jesus in high school at the age of 17. Good Works, Inc (www.good-works.net) was Keith’s senior class project at Ohio University during his senior year. Today, Good Works serves people struggling with poverty, including the homeless in 9 Appalachian Ohio counties, widows and children living in poverty. Good Works has a paid staff of about 25 and provides opportunities for over 1100 volunteers to serve each year. Keith and his wife Darlene live in Athens Ohio and have one son, Timothy who is 21. From the Good Works mission statement “Good Works exists to connect people from all walks of life with people struggling with poverty so that the kingdom of God may be experienced”.

Francis Chan is the former teaching pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley, California, a church he and his wife started in 1994. He is also the Founder and Chancellor of Eternity Bible College and author of the best-selling book, Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God, which came out in 2009. The study will be held on Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

The teaching sessions engage challenging, innovative, and accessible discussions of the nature of God and what that knowledge means for those who believe in Him as well as examining the early church and returning to the concept of church described in the Bible.

The classes will be taught by Dale Thomas, a 5th degree black belt, police officer, former Marine, and member of New Life Christian Fellowship who has been teaching karate professionally since 1981.

The karate will be taught in the Shorin-Ryu tradition. The instruction will be sport-oriented and helpful for self-defense and encouraging personal, self-discipline. Christian teachings and principles will also be included.

This is for all ages and all skill levels. Families are welcome and encouraged to participate together.

Uniforms will be available for purchase at reasonable prices. Come dressed appropriately and ready to start on time.

This is a program of the Fighting Arts Academy.

The series will be taught by Ted Hall and his wife Amy.  They have been married for eighteen years and have three children together. Amy Hall has a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Southern Seminary. Ted Hall is New Life’s pastor. He has a Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry from Southern Seminary.

The class will be held on Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Gospel in Life is an eight-week course on the gospel and how it is lived out in all of life— first in our hearts, then in community, and out into the world.

Week 1 opens the course with the theme of the city: our home now, the world that is. Week 8 closes the course with the theme of the eternal city: our heavenly home, the world that is to come. In between we will look at how the gospel changes our hearts (weeks 2 and 3), changes our community (weeks 4 and 5), and changes how we live in the world (weeks 6 and 7).

We are getting to know our way around and starting to get a feel for our new home town. It really is great to be here. As a family we are having a great new adventure. The kids are getting to know many of the other kids in the neighborhood and are fast making friends. I am currently working through a sermon series that covers the sections of the Baptist Faith and Message to try and give us a good base to work from as I get to know our congregation. We had people in our home for prayer every night of the week the first week after I preached my first sermon on the job at New Life. Then we shifted gears and started doing the Backyard Bible Clubs which have turned out really well. It took very little promotion and the volunteers that we had helped us to pull these off at three different homes in three different weeks in the community. We hope that these efforts will help us to start building bridges and forging relationships with our neighbors. It also helps us all to be focused on being on mission together. Next week we will have Tom and Esther Duttweiler visit form Louisville. They will be leading worship on Sunday August 21. Then we hope to start up a new group for younger adults the next week. Amy and I are also participating in the Prospective Members’ Class led by Wade Dolamore with three other new members. In the next few months our focus will be on getting to know more about our church, our city, and ourselves. Then we can start thinking about our long-term goals and where we are heading. We are amazed at how things are working out so far, and we are having a great time! It is such a blessing to be here.

“Our last BYBC was last night. My daughter seemed to really be listening. This morning when she woke up, Paige told me that the questions asked last night really made her think about things. She said that she feels bad about fighting against God’s will and realized she needs to be respectful to her parents and she is going to really try hard to work on that. Brought tears to my eyes. God is good and answers prayers for those who believe in Him.”

Tues, Wed, Thurs Aug 9-11

Back Yard Bible Clubs (BYBC) have been designed to replace our traditional, campus-centered Vacation Bible School.  Our goal for BYBC is to reach children and families for Christ through relational outreach in our own neighborhoods. This will be our third and final BYBC for this year. Come out and join us!

Theme:
God displays His power so that we might see His greatness. Our response to His greatness should be worship. That is what this curriculum is all about-–showing the greatness of God that children may come to worship Him. God is presented as the great Victor who triumphs over all enemies, including Satan, death, and sin.
